The Final Objective

So previously, I briefly covered the two main ways to generate victory points through Primary and Secondary objectives. The final way is to have a painted army, which generates 10VP at the end of the game.  I have very mixed feelings about this and each time I come back to it I change my mind over whether or not it is a good thing. Pro It rewards players for painting their armies GW prides itself on having beautifully painted armies as a showcase to people who are new to the hobby, consequently when playing in public it encourages players to use painted models It discourages grey netlists Fully painted games feel better In a number of tournaments there is already a requirement to have painted armies Cons It can be a blocker for people getting in to the hobby Some people have difficulties painting and this is discriminatory towards them I have not implemented this rule (yet). I certainly think that it should be something that people think about and talk about. I really can't see thi

Secondary Objectives

In the previous post, I spoke about the importance of troops for primary objectives. Of course the opposite side of the coin is the secondary objectives. Like primary objectives these can generate up to 15 points per turn up to a maximum of 45 points per game. The secondary objectives split into different categories and you can only pick up to a maximum of one per category: Purge the enemy No Mercy, No Respite Battlefield Supremacy Warpcraft Shadow Operations Mission specific objectives Careful consideration of which objectives should be taken as if you can create a synergy between the primary and secondary missions then you can score points for primary and secondary objectives at the same time. With the focus on trying to claim primary objectives at the forefront of my mind I tend to be running quite mobile armies, troops in transports. Owing to this it means that I will nearly always pick a secondary from Battlefield Supremacy. Warpcraft I think is potentially the most interesting o

Primary Objectives

Unless you were living somewhere without internet then you can't help but notice that 40k is back with a new edition. Perhaps the biggest shake up is how objectives work now.  Primary objectives 15pts / turn after turn 1 - Maximum 45pts Secondary objectives 15pts / turn - Maximum 45pts Having a tabletop standard army 10 pts When you are turning up for a game there is nothing that you can do about the points for a painting standard (and I know in my gaming group these 10pts are largely ignored as they seem to discourage people trying something new - though of course we all prefer playing with painted armies). Primary Objectives For each mission we have a mission car that briefs what the purpose of the battle that looks like: ( https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/06/05/four-sizes-fit-allgw-homepage-post-1/ ) The breakdown of the primary objectives is Hold one objective - 5pts Hold two objectives - 5pts Hold more objectives than your enemy - 10pts So to maximise your chances of w
